Emory Theses and Dissertations. The Emory Theses and Dissertations (ETD) Repository holds theses and dissertations from the Laney Graduate School, the Rollins School of Public Health, and the Candler School of Theology, as well as undergraduate honors papers from Emory College of Arts and Sciences.
At least three members of the dissertation committee must be Laney Graduate School faculty. Emory faculty who are not Laney Graduate School faculty may serve on the committee, but do not count towards the three LGS faculty requirement. The Thesis Advisory Committee approves the topic for the candidate's research, approves both a written and oral report of the student's progress at least once a year, reads and approves the thesis before it is submitted to the office of the Graduate School, and acts for the department in recommending the candidate for the M.S. degree.

At the Laney Graduate School, we support and encourage students who need to acquire specialized research skills by traveling to other locations, and who seek to present their research at significant professional conferences. One way we do this is through the Professional Development Support Funds program, or PDS.
Writing and defending your dissertation is a very important process. Please refer to the BCDB Guidelines for more details. Defense. You will schedule your dissertation defense just like a normal committee meeting. At this meeting, the committee must first unanimously approve the dissertation. After approval, the defense officially begins.
The PhD in health services research and health policy is offered through Emory’s Laney Graduate School. This unique program combines a strong interdisciplinary and policy-oriented public health approach with rigorous social science training in either economics or political science and extensive applied research.
Departments that accept projects outside of a traditional honors thesis must receive permission from the Honors Committee. Since credit for the graduate work and the reading program count toward the hours required for the major, the Honors Program usually entails an increase of about four hours of credit in the major requirement.

The composition of the dissertation committee should reflect the nature of students’ proposed dissertation research along with the expertise of faculty in the Department. By March 1 st of the second year, a student should complete a Dissertation Committee Form, which must be signed by all relevant parties and submitted to the Graduate Program Coordinator.
